You want a physicist to speak at your funeral - beautiful quote IMO.

I think that this idea - a physicist explaining how everything that the deceased was is now, as it always has been, part of something bigger, and also highlighting the impact we all have on the particles that flit throughout the universe - said over a Viking-style funeral (well, just the dead body on a burning wooden ship part), would probably be my first choice regarding the removal of my corpse from the sight of humanity.

That being said, I'm also fond of the idea - which, by the time I grow old, may become a real possibility - of the mind being preserved electronically, so that all of the memories remain, in addition to the personality and decision-making process - the only change, really, being relocation to a computer (perhaps a chemical computer, or a biological computer) and the addition of rather a lot of processing power. A great send-off is all well and good, as is immortality through my work, but if I see the opportunity to grasp any form of literal immortality, I'm going to go for it. The inability of computers to play the flute or eat a really great sandwich would be a bit of a problem for me, but I think it would be worth it.

I never thought that physics could be heartwarming until now

This is beautiful. And I would certainly want something like this said at my funeral.

I love this. It's the type of thing I'd like at my funeral, though I don't think I would have one. Cremate me and send me to space - or, failing that, scatter my ashes nilly-willy, as long as I don't interfere with anyone :)

I'd like something like that said at my funeral. If, of course, there is one for me, which I'd rather there not be.

This is one of those things that strikes me as beautiful/creepy depending on my mood. It's interesting and true but I think to some extent purposely ignores the loss of the conciousness that people miss most.

Be that said, I'd prefer it to any of the funeral ceremonies I have gone to :p

Hey, it's this sort of stuff that keeps me going. It would definitely comfort me at a funeral. I think it's a much more beautiful idea than the concept of heaven and souls continuing after death, the thought that the energy that makes me up will continue for eternity. And it's actually scientifically provable, which is the best thing about it. There's no faith involved.
